The Ibiza Town Hall plans to award next year a new contract for the control of paid parking (blue zone) and exclusive parking for residents (green zone) of the city with the intention of doubling its current capacity to reach a total of 6,000 parking spaces. With the increase in the blue and green zones, the aim is to “favor vehicle rotation” in the city. This is one of the forecasts of the 2025 budget which, with a total of 91.3 million euros91.3 million, up 2.4% compared to this year.
In the presentation of the accounts, the mayor, Rafael Triguero, stressed on Wednesday that next year will also “improve” the concession of the cleaning and waste collection servicewith a increase of two million euros. A new contract, budgeted at 800,000 euros, is also planned for the maintenance and upkeep of the city’s gardening and the awarding “finally”, in Triguero’s words, of the new water supply and sanitation concession. The current one has been extended since 2009. In addition, the mayor highlighted another improvement in the concession of public lighting, with the replacement of 1,100 luminairesa quarter of the existing ones, at a cost of just over 1.1 million euros.
The budget foresees “for the first time”, as highlighted by the mayor, an item of two million euros in revenue from penalties for illegal tourist rentals. “We will continue just as forceful as last summer,” warned Triguero. It is also contemplated a 36% increase in fee income (24 million in total), with an increase of almost double in the towing service for the removal of vehicles (just over one million) as a result of a change in the ordinance, as explained by the first deputy mayor, Gema Marí.
Regarding the city’s parking lots, the mayor announced that in 2025 the Consistory will draw up the projects for expand the capacity of the parking lots gESA’s parkings, is Pratet (next to the sports center) and the annex to the police station. Triguero explained that it is proposed to build “one or two floors” on these plots to increase the number of vehicles that can park. Specifically, each level will increase “65% of the current capacity of each parking lot”.
Again the Casa de la Música
Next year, the drafting of other important projects is contemplated, such as the remodeling of the second segment of the first ring roadthe one that passes by the Sa Real school. With a cost of almost 350,000 euros, the drafting of the projects for the reform of the Sa Graduada square, the Cas Serres social center and the streets Pere Matutes Noguera, Abad y Lasierra and Extremadura are also planned. For the execution of the works of the reform of the square and the streets mentioned above, the Consistory already contemplates an item in the budget of 2025. These works, as well as the extension of the Can Cantó school, were already foreseen in this year’s accounts, according to Marí.
The government team will also give a return to the construction project of the Casa de la Música (80,000 euros), which in the last term was deserted twice, so that some construction company assumes its execution. It is also foreseen in 2025 the presentation of the project for the 800-space subway parking lot on the boulevard next to Sa Real and that of the new Mercat Nou.
Regarding investments, the budget contemplates a total of 8.3 million euros which will be financed with the bank loan subscribed this year (3.8 million) and own funds (4.1 million). Among the planned actions are the acquisition of a radar and four motorcycles for the Local Police, improvements in playgrounds and the new cemetery, the electrical installation of the Talamanca beach hut, a new lifeguard tower and accessible toilets at Ses Figueretes beach, and the renovation of sound and image equipment at Can Ventosa, as well as the renovation of the stalls. In addition, new access control systems will be installed to the sports facilities and the enlargement of the multipurpose room and the storage room of the Can Misses swimming pool.
Investments without funds yet
In addition, the government team plans to initiate much more important investments next year33.3 millionbut which are not included in the budget because their funding is not yet guaranteed by other administrations such as the Consell or the Balearic Government. Triguero said that the fact that the regional executive is forced to extend its budget due to the lack of support from Vox will not affect the investments that are expected to be incorporated in the budget.
All these projects count for now with an item of only 10 euros that will be expanded at the time that its funding is closed with the signing of an agreement and the receipt of the money. For example, although Vila and the Consell have already signed the agreement for the construction of the low-demand center of es Gorg, the government team has chosen not to incorporate the item planned in 2025 (it is expected to start the works) until the Consell does not enter the amount.
In this regard, the mayor stressed that the 2025 accounts are “prudent and realistic” because, from the start, only the amounts that are tied up are included. The 3.5 million that, by law, the City Council must receive in 2025 from the Govern and the Consell to compensate for the burden it bears for its status as capital of the island have not been provided for now either. Among the investments not yet budgeted (see attached table), the remodeling of the Avenida de España (has been delayed by the appeals of various bidders) or the reform of the Mercat Vell and sa Peixateria stand out.
