Gale causes endless queues, six cancellations, and delays at Ibiza Airport

Of the delayed flights, three are international connections and the other two are domestic flights

The strong gusts of wind in Ibiza have caused, for the time being, the cancellation of six flights departing from or bound for es Codolar airport. In addition four other air routes have been delayed from the terminal.

Three of these cancellations have occurred on routes arriving to the island, one from Barcelona and two from Palma, and three others on planes departing from Ibiza on the same routes, according to Aena representatives.

From the airport operator have indicated that there may be, throughout the day, delays due to “bad weather in Central Europe”.

Of the delayed flights, three of them are to international destinations and one of them to domestic destinations. One was bound for Heathrow (London)another to Toulouse (France) y at 18.10 a.m a plane was scheduled to depart in the direction of Munich (Germany) which will also arrive later at its destination.

As for domestic routes, the passengers on the flight Ibiza-Barcelona at 6:30 p.m operated by Ryanair will also land late at El Prat.

Passenger outrage

One of the passengers bound for Palma has reported that the queues in front of the check-in counters of the Ibiza terminal “are endless”. In one of them, one of the stewardesses, having finished her shift, left without being replaced by another colleague, increasing the indignation of the passengers.

The passengers of the flight that had to leave for Palma at noon were relocated on other flights. According to the passenger, “the company gave priority to the elderly and people with children”. All flights on Tuesday were full, so most of the passengers will fly on the 20.45 flight.

As for the waiting time for management, one of those affected relates that it took two and a half hours to offer them a solution until, finally, they were put up in hotels and organized the return.

A group of people from Malaga who had a ticket to fly on Saturday are still on the island after suffering several flight cancellations, first, due to the controllers’ strike and then, due to the gale.

As for the maritime routes, for the moment, the bad weather has not caused changes in the planning. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) had predicted for this Monday gusts of wind from the northwest up to 20 kilometers per hour.
