The elite of the 10K Ibiza prepares to fly

The 10K Ibiza-Platja d’en Bossa has everything ready for celebrate its fifth edition this Sunday 9 february 9, at 9 a.m.

The international event will bring together a important list of elite athletes to fly over one of the fastest circuits in Spain.

As the main attraction, the 10K Ibiza-Platja d’en Bossa will have the spaniard Thierry Ndikumwenayo who will try to beat the Spanish 10K record.

His goal will be to run at a pace of 2:45 per kilometer to finish below the national record, currently held by Ilias Fifa with a time of 27:41.

He will be joined in the attempt by the athlete borundian Rodrigue Kwizera current leader of the World Cross Country, who will play the role of hare to contribute to the achievement of the feat.

But beyond a possible new national record, the 10K Ibiza-Platja d’en Bossa will also count on other top athletes such as the uruguayan Cristhian Zamora current national marathon record holder with a time of 2 hours, 9 minutes and 4 seconds, which he recently achieved in the Valencia marathon.

The Andalusian David Palacio will also join the big event for the second consecutive year. Palacio, who at the end of 2024 was proclaimed winner of the Benidorm 10K, will land on the island in a great moment of form.

Other athletes to watch out for will be Ireland’s Fearghal Curtin, who boasts a personal best of 28:25, and Austria’s Jannis Bonek, bronze medalist at the world orienteering championships, who already knows what it’s like to run under 30 minutes. Meanwhile, the Finns Leevi Keronen and Julius Mäkinen, together with the Frenchman Thibaut Maillot, also have the marks to be in the top teen of the general classification.

Women’s category

In the women’s category, the main favorite is the olympic marathon runner Melody Julienfrench athlete who has a best time of 32:26 on the road. In addition, Julien will come to the island with the intention of achieving the minimum standard to be present at the next European 10K Championships to be held on April 13 in Brussels. Along with Julien will run Risper Biyaki, an athlete born in Kenya and nationalized Mexican who last month made a time of 32:46 in the 10K Valencia Ibercaja.

The argentine Luz Tesuri returns to Ibiza with the desire to surpass her great performance of 2023, when she had an excellent performance with a time of 32 minutes and 54 seconds. For her part, the andrea Romero from Formentera will be the island’s representative. Romero, who recently smashed the women’s 5K record (16:28), will make her debut in the 10K Ibiza-Platja d’en Bossa with the intention of setting her personal best.

With all these names and others yet to be confirmed, the fifth edition of the 10K Ibiza-Platja d’en Bossa promises a great sporting spectacle and strong emotions.
