Six out of ten covid patients admitted in Ibiza are over 70 years old, according to data from the Pitiusa Health Department. A total of 24 people are currently hospitalised “diagnosed with covid”, exactly the same as a week ago, the last time the Balearic Ministry of Health offered these figures. All of them are in the Can Misses Hospital, with the exception of one who is admitted to the Policlรญnica Nuestra Seรฑora del Rosario, the Balearic Ministry of Health detailed.
All of them are on the ward. In other words, the critical care units of the island’s healthcare centers remain covid free. The situation is the same as it was last Friday (24 patients on the ward and none in the ICU) and as it was on March 31.
The Can Misses Hospital management has clarified that only half of those admitted, a total of twelve, are in a covid ward, ie, have an active infection. In the same way, they insist that not all those classified as “covid patients” were admitted for the virus, but that many of them have been detected at the time they came to the hospital for other reasons.
A total of 14 of the 23 hospitalized at Can Misses are men and nine are women, according to the center. Two of them are between 40 and 49 years old, while the remaining seven are over 70 years old. In the case of the men, the latter age group is the largest, with eight hospitalized. There are two who are in their 60s, three who are between 50 and 59 years old and one of them is not yet 20. Health insists that this does not mean that he was admitted for a serious case of coronavirus, but that he was admitted for other reasons and covid was then detected.
Up to 54 days of hospitalization for Covid
The average time these patients have been hospitalized is ten and a half days. Most do not add more than two or three days in the hospital, but there is a woman who is close to reaching two months in Can Misses: yesterday accumulated and 54 days.
