After 113 days submerged off the coast of Cap Martinet, the charred hull of the ‘Aria SF‘ is now ready to be sent definitively to port, far from the coast of Ibiza, after this mega yacht of 45 meters in length caught fire in Cala Saona and ended up sinking on Ibiza just a few days after the start of the emergency.

The recovery of the hull of this great wreck has required the use of a pontoon brought expressly from Cyprus to carry out the work. The ‘Conquest MB1’, a 136m Norwegian flagged vessel, finally arrived on Friday in Pitiusas waters, after the storm prevented its arrival on time.

Recovery of Aria SF delayed due to weather

The weather conditions did not allow the extraction to be undertaken on Sunday, which was again postponed. Now, the remains of the ‘Aria SF’ are already on board of the pontoon and hooked to the tugboat ‘VB Hispania’, informed yesterday José Ramón Crespí, head of Salvage in the Balearic Islands, so the most logistically complex operations seem to be completed.

During this time, the tasks related to the ‘Aria SF’ have been carried out by Ardentia, the company chosen by the shipowner. The company took over from Salvamento Marítimo in the guarding of the hull, after its approach to Ibiza, although the communication channels remained open between the responsible authorities. After the sinking and the fuel cleaning operations of the ship, the plan to recover the hull was sent to Capitanía Marítima, the competent authority that gave the green light to the plan that has finally been carried out.
