Anem al Cine starts the new year today with the screening of Bird, a poignant British social drama directed by Andrea Arnold. The film follows a 12-year-old girl who escapes her mother’s home to flee an abusive environment. Bird, which earned nominations for Best Film at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and Best Supporting Actress at the 27th British Independent Film Awards, launches a diverse program for the first quarter of 2025. Spanning eleven films from seven countries, the screenings will take place on Thursdays at the Multicinemas, with foreign films shown in their original language with subtitles.

January 23: Daaaaaaaali! – A Surreal French Comedy-Drama
Quentin Dupieux’s Daaaaaaaali! pays homage to surrealism through the story of Judith, a French journalist, and her chaotic encounters with Salvador Dalí. January 30: When Autumn Falls – Drama and Intrigue in Burgundy
François Ozon’s When Autumn Falls (Quand vient l’automne) delves into a grandmother’s quiet life turned tragic after an accidental poisoning. Mixing drama with suspense, the film won the Jury Award for Best Screenplay at the San Sebastián Festival.
February 6: La Guitarra de Yerai Cortés – A Musical Journey with C. Tangana
C. Tangana’s documentary follows his collaboration with flamenco artist Yerai Cortés, blending music, passion, and a deep dive into Yerai’s family history. Nominated for Best Documentary at the 2025 Goya Awards, the film offers an emotional exploration of artistry and identity.
February 13: Crossing – A Transgender Road Movie
Directed by Levan Akin, Crossing tells the story of Lia, a retired teacher searching for her estranged transgender niece. This Swedish melodrama won the Special Jury Prize at the Berlinale and is a testament to resilience and acceptance.
February 20: Puan – Academic Rivalries in Argentina
Maria Alché and Benjamín Naishtat’s Puan depicts the professional and personal struggles of Marcelo, a philosophy professor contending with a rival for a coveted teaching position. The film earned the Jury Prize for Best Screenplay at the San Sebastián Festival.
February 27: Volveréis – A Farewell with a Twist
Jonás Trueba’s Volveréis explores the end of a relationship through a farewell party that celebrates new beginnings. Blending comedy with philosophical musings, the film won the Europa Cinemas Cannes Label Prize for Best European Film.

- March 6: Dahomey – Mati Diop’s Golden Bear-winning film mixes fact and fiction to recount the return of royal treasures from Paris to Benin.
- March 13: How to Have Sex – Molly Manning Walter’s teen drama, awarded Best Film (Un Certain Regard) at Cannes, takes a raw look at youth and relationships.
