The Cooperativa del Campo de Formentera now has the machinery of the only mill on the island in its facilities in the industrial zone that, once assembled, will be able to grind wheat for human consumption, .
The project is one of the objectives that has been proposed by the Cooperativa del Campo and will allow now them to grind native wheat grain, the variety ‘xiexa’, highly demanded by the bakeries of the island.
The manager of the Cooperative, Carles Marรญ, explained that the budget is 81,00 euros, with the assembly included, and has been financed with funds from the entity itself.
The machinery is inside the warehouse of the Cooperative, in a room specially prepared and separated from the rest for this purpose and that meets all the health guarantees required by law. It is foreseen that the mill will be assembled at the end of this month so that it can start working at the beginning of December.
One of the workers of the Cooperativa del Campo, Marรญa Pรฉrez Rodrรญguez, will be the miller. Before that, a course is planned for all the associates who want to know how flour will be produced in Formentera. The next objective is the oil mill, which is planned to be set up in 2022.
