In August, the average hotel rate in Ibiza and Formentera was the highest in history

However, revenue per room was lower than in 2019 due to lower hotel occupancy. In comparison to 2020, the prices of five-star hotels in Ibiza and Formentera increased by 88%

When setting costs in August, full high season, the hoteliers from Ibiza and Formentera avoided the epidemic and the impediments imposed by the British Government for the entrance of tourists from that nation, our primary source market: they were higher than before. The average daily fee increased to over 210 euros, nearly 20% higher than in 2020 (approximately 30 euros more per day on average) and the highest in the island’s history. So far, the highest was in 2019: 177.5 euros. It was 18.2 percent more expensive this year. The industry had two choices: lower costs to compete with other locations, or, as they eventually did, believe that customers would pay whatever it took to spend the summer on these islands. Those who ultimately opened and bet big fared favorably.

Especially the more luxurious ones. According to figures published by Ibestat from information provided by the National Statistics Institute, the five-star attained an average rate of 526 euros, over 88 percent higher than a year ago (246 euros more than in August 2020), and nearly 100 euros more than the average of 2019. (INE). It is, along with the 2014 price (553.7 euros), the highest recorded since these accommodations were introduced in Ibiza. The four stars had an average rate of nearly 203 euros, 13.2 percent higher than a year ago and the highest in Pitiusa history: it had never exceed 192 euros. The same is true for three-star hotels, where a single night’s stay costs an average of 180 euros, 5% higher than in 2020 and over 35 euros more than in 2019. Those who wanted to visit the Pitiusas during the heat wave paid a high price.

Ibiza and Formentera hotel rates on average

In fact, hoteliers ostensibly raised prices by 17 percent on average, 5.5 percent in the case of five-star hotels, 6 percent in four-star hotels, and 33.5 percent in three-star hotels.

According to Ibestat data, the price increase compensated for the fact that occupancy (78 percent in that month) was not as high as it was two years before (87 percent ). Thus, income per available room was 151.3 euros, nearly double (97.3 percent) that of the previous year, but 12 euros less than the highest recorded average of 2019. Nonetheless, it is one of the top five records in this statistic pitiusa.
