In the coming months of July, August and September, the Formentera Hospital will incorporate 10 professionals and will again reinforce hospital emergency care, coinciding with the increase in population due to tourism activity.
The other big news is that Formentera will have, from June 1, a permanent SAMU 061 unit. This was announced yesterday by the Balearic Health Councillor, Patricia Gรณmez, who explained that, for the first time, the service will not be dismantled once the tourist season ends.
The Health Department of Ibiza and Formentera also announced yesterday that during these months the Emergency Service of Formentera Hospital will be increased with medical staff, nursing staff and auxiliary care technicians, and also the reinforcement of services such as the Laboratory and Radiology, whose activity also increases during this time.
For this purpose two medical, two nursing and two auxiliary care professionals will be incorporated. During the winter, two hospital teams are in operation for emergency care, which are also responsible for out-of-hospital care, which is possible due to the low care load in autumn and winter.
On the other hand, with the support of the SAMU 061 teams, this summer the three teams that will be operational will be able to focus on hospital emergencies and leave the care of out-of-hospital emergency care to 061 and the control of critical patients at the Formentera Hospital until the emergency air transport service linking Ibiza and Formentera is operational and takes over.
The SAMU 061 unit has an effect on the Hospital’s emergencies, since in winter the two doctors who are active have to attend to emergencies and out-of-hospital care.
Formentera Hospital’s Laboratory and Radiology
With the increase in population, the number of radiological and laboratory tests also increases. For this reason, the Health Department has authorized the reinforcement of the staff in these two departments, so that each department will increase from two technicians to five during the summer months.
According to Gonzalo Espรญ, Deputy Director of Hospital Management, “with these reinforcements we are in a position to offer optimum quality care, as we have increased the number of fast-track consultations in the Emergency Department, which will enable us to provide an adequate response to the needs of this season”.
The managing director of the Health Department of Ibiza and Formentera, Carmen Santos, stressed in a note that “the summer reinforcement guarantees optimal care times and ensures the constant presence of three medical teams in the Formentera Hospital Emergency Department and improve the response of the Laboratory and Radiology”.
