A vehicle that was driving along Joan Castellรณ Guasch Avenue in Sant Ferran, Formentera, veered off the road at around 1.30am for unknown reasons, overturned and ended up under the pergola of the Verdera bar-restaurant’s terrace. Due to the damage caused, this establishment will remain closed for at least the rest of the day.
The driver was pulled out of the vehicle by a neighbour before the ambulance arrived and took her to hospital. According to sources from the Ibiza and Formentera Health Department, the woman was admitted with multiple bruising and is expected to be discharged in the next few hours.
The vehicle, a Suzuki SUV, left accident traces for several metres before crashing into the bar’s terrace. It first collided with a parked vehicle and then drove directly onto the avenue’s right-hand pavement, in the direction of La Savina. It ripped off a street lamp and a tree before hitting the wall of the building, where there is a public telephone (also affected), and ended up overturning between the flower boxes, tables and chairs on the terrace. The completely destroyed pergola finished up on top of the car.
The Guardia Civil has taken charge of proceedings to clarify the cause of the accident and firefighters moved to remove the vehicle from the sidewalk, for which they had to use a tow truck.
