Third boat brings total of 43 migrants to Formentera in just 12 hours

Three Algerian groups have been intercepted on land

A new vessel arrived in Formentera at 2:45am this morning, in the area of Cala Saona, as reported by the Government Delegation. The 14 migrants traveling aboard the boat, all male, were intercepted on land. With this, there have been three boats arrive in Formentera in just over 12 hours, with 43 migrants in total on board.

After 11.30pm last night, the Government Delegation reported that at around 10pm, a neighbour alerted the Civil Guard to the presence of 14 migrants in the area of es Cupinar.

The first boat from the coast of Algeria arrived on the island around 1:40am , with fifteen migrants on board , all male and in apparent good health, as annouced by Radio Illa on social networks and later confirmed by the Government Delegation .

A cyclist who was in the area of es Ram, climbing the Mola, David Setbetes, was the one who alerted 112 after migrants called his attention to ask him how to get to the headquarters of the Guardia Civil.

After explaining to them that the barracks were a 12 kilometres away from where they were, this individual offered to call 112, which in turn alerted the State security forces. Public safety officers from the Formentera Post, the Citizen Security Unit of the Command (Usecic) of the Guardia Civil and the Policía Local took charge of the migrants, who were scheduled to be transferred to Ibiza.
