The Federació de Futbol de les Illes Baleares has announced this morning the postponement of all football and futsal competitions for this weekend. In a statement, the FFIB wanted to express “its utmost concern with the latest events related to attacks on referees” in island and regional football competitions and its “strong condemnation of all kinds of violent behavior in sport”.
In the Pitiusas this stoppage will affect 80 football matches that were to be played in the Pitiusas and that will have to be held during the week once the affected clubs, from Infantil to Third Division, reach an agreement.
In this sense, the FFIB sends an unequivocal message of support to all the Balearic referees who have taken the decision, as a protest measure, not to blow the whistle this weekend.
“The referees, in all categories, must work in a context of total guarantees, which requires the awareness of all stakeholders in football and the efforts of the competent authorities in terms of security so that situations like the one experienced by our referee Joan Miquel Reus last weekend never happen again”, explains the federation.
In this initiative to support and defend the referees, the FFIB has decided to stop all competitions under the umbrella of this federation, including futsal, beyond the categories of Third RFEF and Regional Preferente. That is, the FFIB decides to postpone the matches of this weekend not only in the categories that have been requested by the referee collective, but each and every one of the categories without exception that are dependent and delegated by this federation .
This measure has found full support from the RFEF in the figure of its president Luis Rubiales and from the CTA through Luis Medina Cantalejo.
