The Ibiza Women’s Indoor Padel team secured a their position in the First Division League of national paddle, after defeating the Hípica Valladolid in the elimination playoff by a tight 3-2. “We come from regional third division and in less than five years have reached First Division and to be able to stay on top of it all, makes us really very happy and satisfied,” said team captain Pilar Escandell, who recalled that the goal was “permanence, knowing that there are other teams [eight make up the top category] and that there are professionals and signings from World Padel Tour.”
Although in the decisive rounds the Ibiza Women’s Indoor Padel team could count on “two guns” with the sisters Mapi and Majo Sanchez Alayeto, former world number one, Escandell stressed that the Ibizan is “a more humble team” than their rivals and has “shown” that Ibiza can make it with the elite. “Trusting in our five ‘musketeers’ we have achieved permanence, we are very proud ,” added the captain of the island team, which played for survival against the Valladolid side after losing in the previous round with the PlasticBand of Mallorca by another tight 3-2.
The Ibiza Women’s Indoor Pádel champions will try to add their fourth regional crown in the Balearic Championship to be held at the facilities of the Padel Factory in Palma next weekend. “This year is complicated because we have injuries and casualties,” lamented Pilar Escandell, precisely one of the players has a knee injury. Together with Carla Tur, the Ibizan couple will try to return as soon as possible to participate in the World Padel Tour to ensure their presence among the top 100 in the world ranking, where they are currently in 78th position.
