A woman in her 40s has reported the mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor for an assault that occurred last July 17th on a yacht during the fighter’s 34th birthday party. As published by Marca, the victim stated in a complaint, in which she provides photographs and medical evidence of the injuries suffered, that she attended the fighter’s birthday party at a nightclub and then left in a limousine with McGregor, his wife and two mutual friends heading to the yacht to continue the celebration privately.

Once on the boat and after swimming together in the sea and enjoying the sunrise, an argument broke out which provoked McGregor’s violent reaction against the woman, according to the alleged victim’s version.

The victim was rescued at sea by a Red Cross rescue boat after the assault, which resulted in contusions and bruises all over her body and several hand fractures, the sports daily reported.

Assault complaint not ratified

Once at the police station on Formentera and having been treated at the Formentera hospital, the alleged victim did not ratify her complaint because she felt frustrated “with the lack of understanding in language and because she was eager to return to Ireland” due to the state of shock she suffered, for which the proceeding was dismissed.

Once she returned to her country, with the help of a Spanish lawyer, she filed a complaint against the fighter with the Irish police after testifying for more than six hours.

In Spain, the case has been reopened and the preliminary proceedings have been opened thanks to the appeal for reform presented by the woman’s lawyers, who must ratify her statement in the coming days.

This complaint has set in motion a double process with the criminal proceeding in Spain and on the other hand the civil proceeding, which will likely take place in Ireland.

Police from both countries are collaborating in the ongoing investigation.
