In line with 8M, the Consell de Ibiza will bring the Insular Equality Plan to a plenary session this month for its final approval. This was announced yesterday at a press conference by the councillor for Social Welfare, Carolina Escandell, who added that “we have been providing specific training on sexual exploitation, which we will continue in the coming months”.
At the same time, the institution announced that on March 10th “friendly rooms” will be inaugurated in the police and Guardia Civil offices, where female victims who come to file complaints and also minors can be attended. These announcements coincide with the celebration of International Women’s Day (8M) on March 8. In fact, another of this year’s objectives is to repeat the program with the association Tursiops, thanks to which the victims, on board a boat, participate in activities that reinforce the positive experiences of vulnerable groups.
At the same time, Escandell, together with the head of the Center for Studies and Prevention of Addictive Behaviors (Cepca), Belén Alvite, presented the activities to celebrate 8M on March 8.
Consell de Ibiza 8M activities
The island’s highest institution has organised activities for all ages because “equality is everyone’s goal”. “We cannot take a step backwards or normalise behaviour that was previously unthinkable,” said the councillor of Social Welfare.
Due to the success of last year’s Tik Tok contest, the initiative is repeated this year and included in the national contest ‘Rolling for equality’. Participants only have to upload a video with the tags #Ibizaporlaigualdad and #rodandoporlaigualdad. The rules will be available at www.conselldeivissa.es.
On March 7, at 7pm, the short film ‘Ellas’ will be screened at the Teatro España in collaboration with the Santa Eulària City Council.
On Tuesday, March 8th, International Women’s Day will be full of activities: at 9am there will be a screening of ‘Las hijas de Cynisca’. ‘El deporte femenino habla de la igualdad’ will be screened at the auditorium of Cas Serres in the cultural space of Can Ventosa and the Palacio de Congresos. The campaign ‘Baldufes. Dóna-li voltes a la igualtat. És bona per a tu’. Equality merchandise will be distributed and a storyteller will be present.
At 12 noon the institutional declaration will be read at the Consell and in the afternoon, from 5:30pm, there will be a workshop to make banners at the Parque de la Paz. An hour later the 8M demonstration will take place in the Parque Reina Sofía and at 7pm will be the reading of the manifesto, which will precede the karaoke and batucada.
The activities continue on March 14, at 11am at the Can Marines estate, with the presentation of the didactic units of the project ‘Tornem a la terra’.
On March 25, in Cas Serres, the day ‘Dona i Salut’ will be offered which includes talks on women and cancer (by Apaac), nutrition and pelvic floor. The program will conclude on April 2, at 7pm, with the presentation of the videos made by the students of the program ‘Corto y cambio de rol’. It will take place in the auditorium of Cas Serres.
Santa Eulària 8M activities
The Department of Equality of the Santa Eulària City Council has also organized different activities for next week. On March 8, at mid-morning in front of the Town Hall, an institutional declaration will be read. In the afternoon, the exhibition hall Sant Jaume 72 will host the opening of the exhibition ‘Soy quien quiero ser'(I am who I want to be) by photographer Monica Teruelo.
On March 9 there will be a new showing of the cycle of short films ‘Directed by women’ at the Teatro España with free admission. On March 10, at 8pm in the Centro Cultural de Jesús, the ‘Conciliation Guide’ published by the City Council will be presented. The presentation will be followed by a colloquium, which will begin an hour earlier, under the title ‘Conciliación y liderazgo femenino’. To close the week, on Saturday at 7pm at the Teatro España, there will be a performance of ‘Joana E’, by Galiana Teatre. Tickets can be purchased at www.santaeulariadesriu.com.

Sant Antoni 8M activities
The City Council of Sant Antoni hosts activities from tomorrow March 4, at the Cervantes Cultural Center at 5pm, is the conference ‘Women Refugees from Palestine’, organized by Unrwa, the UN Agency for Palestinian refugees. Those interested can register at 657 32 34 90 or at baleares@unrwa.es.
On the other hand, from March 7 to 11, the Municipal Library is organizing a book exhibition table where citizens can find a selection of works to commemorate 8M. The program continues on March 10 with the narration ‘Siempre Dos’ by Encarna de las Heras, at the Centro Cultural Cervantes, and on Friday with the storytelling ‘Celeste’ by Sonrisas Mágicas, which will be held at the Municipal Library.
